"You Shine" by Gwen Wruck

Hi creative friends,

I'm back on the D-lish Scraps blog today with a pretty special share.  This photo has been kicking around my scrap room for years!!!  For years, I have been trying and trying to get it scrapped, trying it with a heap of colour combos but it never made it to the final layout as it was switched out with another photo.  The problem was the gold in the tutu... it's a bit of a mustard gold colour and I could never find a good fit, it's also of my sweet little Miss when she loved Ballet.  She has since stopped ballet and I am still quite devastated about it, so this layout brings me a lot of joy and takes me back to a time when she loved it.

I'm telling you all this because I want you to know that not every page turns out perfectly, things rarely go to plan when I scrap, especially when the photo is particularly meaningful... I've just learned to go with the flow, switch out some things and work with what I have that is working and eventually, everything will fall into place :)

I have used a bunch of D-lish goodies here including the felt heart doilies which I crazy adore!  This one has an acetate overlay layered on top and stitched into place.  There is also a mix of different resin embellishments which are always the perfect finishing touch to a layout.

I know you all know how I love bows... #allthebows #bowadict... and this layout uses this lovely Gingham bow - the black was a surprising addition but I think it really makes the page pop!  I've also added some Wood Veneer as I love the soft colour of these hearts.

You can also see here the TuTu bloom - So soft and delicate and really fit with the tutu theme of my page and some of the pretty paper layers and stitching.

One more close up, stitching, paper layers and Enamel dots... all in my signature style.

BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES | WILD AT HEART | GWEN WRUCK Guest Designer for Kraft + Challenges

Hi friends,

Did you know that Cocoa Vanilla Studios is one of the sponsors this month over at Kraft + Challenges?  If you are looking for some inspiration and want a chance to win yourself some Cocoa Vanilla goodies, be sure to check the challenge out and give it a go!

This month, you need to use Denim on your creation, somehow, anyhow (I simply used the colour Denim)... making sure the Kraft is still the hero.  Here is the inspiration board:

At first I was a bit worried that the board was not quite me, however,  it was a great starting point for a layout and I find challenges like these really help me become a better scrapper by getting me out of my comfort zone a little.  I took inspiration in particular from the lace and the beautiful shades of denim blue.  I started with the Kraft card stock base and a cut file from white card stock from my stash.  Then I pulled out a stack of pieces from the Wild At Heart collection all in varying shades of blue.  I starting with the stunning bold title from the chipboard sticker sheet.

It turned out a little 'boho' and I really love that about it!  To create the layout, I took the "Grandma's Tablecloth background" cut file from the silhouette store and cut it to fill an entire 12 x 12 white card stock sheet.  I then overlaid it onto of my Kraft card stock.  At this point I saw the background design had taken away from the Kraft base too much so I went about cutting out large sections of it to reveal more Kraft colour.  I kept aside some of these cut out pieces to use as layers in my photo mat.  Once I was happy with the white that was left, I backed with the small pieces of the "Mariposa" paper.  I tried to vary the pieces from the paper up a lot, rather than back the file in one large piece; as I wanted a mix of the shades of blue to match the inspiration board.  I then went about machine stitching the pieces for added detail.

Next, I set about adding my title.  With a title this large, it's a good idea to place it early in the design - I find if I don't do this, I can run out of space later.  I then added in the lovely chipboard photo frames.  I love love love these!  I wanted to use the quote about love as well, and was the perfect fit for the frame as you can see here. This was also the point where I finalised my photo mat; I've used more of the "Mariposa" paper as well as some of the "Artisan" paper for contrast.

You can also see I've added some more machine stitching around my photo, some die cut ephemera pieces such as this bow and some pretty blue flowers and the enamel dot sparkles.  At this point I thought it needed a little pop of another colour and noticed the inspiration board had the smallest pops of pink.  For these, I went to the Endless Summer collection and found the Woodies and Blooms were a perfect fit to finish off the layout.

I hope my layout and a little look into my process has inspired you to give the challenge a try, I'd love to see what you create!

"Sweet - loveable you" for D-lish Scraps

Happy Thursday creative friends,

Here today to share with you a layout of my sister and daughter on a recent girls day out.

The idea for this layout started with the the background spotty paper and an outline of a heart I had cut on my Silhouette.  I don't often use big bold shapes like this one however I have been seeing a lot of layouts with large hearts of late and wanted to give one a go... AND I love how it tuned out!

To create my flower clusters, I have used some layered fussy cut paper flowers and then added the Fantasy Blooms to the top to finish it all off.  I love how dimensional these are and the pop of the pink was perfect for this layout.

I have also used glitter dots which were in the perfect shade to match the flower.  You can also see where I have placed the paint chip tab and a 5x7 paper baggie - these are two of my favourite D-lish supplies.

For my third pop of pink to round out the layout, the Sequin Bow was the perfect choice and of course I've added some stitching too.

One last close up, this one of my title, the perfect sized wood veneer word "sweet" - I love the tone in these veneer so I tend to leave them natural.

You can also see the wood veneer hearts I've used and what layout would be complete without adding a D-lish doiley!

"Pretty in Pink" for D-lish Scraps - March Inspiration Board

Hi Everyone,

Here today to share the March inspiration board over at D-lish scraps and isn't it just divine?

The girls and I were discussing and apparently there are people out there that don't like pink?? Can you believe that?  For me, Pink is my all time favourite, especially baby pink and it was so fun to create with it for this project.

I started the page with the white background and the Cocoa Vanilla 'XOXO' cut file elements.  After deciding their position I added some misting and adding Shimmerz using the packaging technique.  Once I was happy I stitched the pieces in place.

Next, I added the vintage lace to the top with some machine stitching.  I began work on my photo mat which I have anchored from the top of the lace.

I've added in a stack of D-lish Scraps bits and pieces and lots of paper layers too.

Here you can see the veneer frame I've added to my paper layers, which I've painted with gesso and added Shimmerz as well as a flourish piece cut from my Silhouette.

I hope you are all pink lovers and will give the challenge a go!

Hello creative friends,

Back today to share with you my very first layout using the divine 'Wild at Heart' collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio.  I so adore the pastel elements in this collection and I've teamed them with a black and white photo of my daughter.

This layout started with this sweet little background cut file called "Heart Background" from the Silhouette store which I cut from plain white card stock.  I just love how it looked over the top of the 'Luscious' paper; I think it really shows off that beautiful ombre effect.  I have also added some stitching detail for interest and to keep it in place.

I also really wanted to use lots of the pieces from the Ephemera pack, these are a must in any collection and this one is no exception. There are so many pieces all varying in size and they always include all of the icons in the range and so many beautiful things to finish out your layout.

I started with the larger elements such as the blue and white doily and the pink frame.  The other larger elements I have used are from the 'Fussy Cuts' page including the large butterfly and the text "you're some kind of wonderful" which I've used as a bit of a sub-title for my page.

I've also added 2 smaller chipboard frames.  Once these larger elements were placed on the page I went back through the ephemera pack looking for smaller pieces.  I found the cute little 'love' ticket,  a cute tag, film strip and the die cut butterfly as well as the 'TODAY" and "Sweet" sentiments.  I also couldn't resist using two of the butterflies as well.

To round out the page I have added some chipboard pieces, a flair and those super sparkly enamel dots.  I couldn't have my tag without a pretty bow so I've added one with twine from my stash and then thought I'd add two more pieces in circular shapes on either side of the photo to balance out the design.

The collection is in store now, be sure to check it all out!
